Conversion practices also known as “conversion therapy” are human rights violations aimed at forcibly changing an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity. galck+ has taken a multi-pronged approach to combat these abuses.

Key Activities and Achievements:

  • Groundbreaking Research: Published Shame Is Not a Cure, the first major report documenting conversion practices in Kenya.
  • Survivor Support Programs: Established peer support groups, therapy services, and emergency housing for survivors of conversion practices.
  • Advocacy for Legal Bans: Engaged lawmakers and human rights bodies to push for policies that outlaw conversion practices.
  • Religious Engagements: Held dialogues with faith leaders to challenge religious justifications for conversion therapy and promote LGBTQ+ inclusion in faith communities.

Going forward, galck+ will expand survivor support networks, strengthen legislative advocacy, and continue documenting conversion practices to inform policy reforms.
