MARKING A NEW CHAPTER

Leadership Transition

2025 marked an important period of transition for galck+. As an organisation, we moved through a significant phase of reflection, restructuring, and strategic realignment to strengthen our long-term sustainability and position the coalition for the future. As part of this process, galck+ undertook an organisational audit, including leadership transitions and broader structural changes across the Secretariat.
We remain deeply grateful to our former Executive Coordinator, Lorna Dias, whose leadership, commitment, and vision played a significant role in shaping galck+ during a critical period of growth and movement-building. Her contributions continue to form an important part of the organisation’s foundation and trajectory.

Following this transition, Yvonne (Yvee) Oduor assumed the role of Executive Coordinator at galck+. Yvee is a gender non-conforming feminist and human rights activist with over a decade of experience advancing the rights of gender and sexual minorities in Kenya, across Africa, and globally. Holding a Master of Science in Gender, Media, and Culture from the London School of Economics and Political Science, Yvee brings extensive expertise in operations, advocacy, feminist learning and knowledge production, communications, inclusion programming, mentorship, and strategic litigation support at national, regional, and international levels.

Prior to assuming the role, Yvee played a key role within galck+’s leadership and coordination structures, including supporting the coalition’s Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) research efforts. Their activism journey began within the Gay, Bisexual and Men who have Sex with Men (GBMSM) movement, and later expanded through the co-founding of Because Womxn, a healing justice initiative for lesbians, bisexual women, queer women, and gender non-conforming persons in Kenya.

Yvee has also contributed to numerous LGBTQ+ and social justice initiatives through volunteerism, fellowships, movement leadership, and board service. They currently serve as Vice Chair of the management committee at the Commonwealth Equality Network (TCEN) and were recognised with the Upinde Fahari Award in 2022.

As galck+ continues to evolve, we remain confident in the strength, resilience, and vision of the Secretariat, member organisations, and broader movement community. The transition period laid important groundwork for the coalition’s next chapter, and we remain committed to deepening collective advocacy, movement-building, care, and organisational sustainability moving forward.
